About the work
Commissioned by Baroque Voices, La Próxima Vez is a setting of a poem by New Zealand/Venezuelan poet Desiree Gezentsvey. When Gezentsvey gave Farr a book of her poetry, the composer was determined to set some of it. The opportunity finally arose when Pepe Becker approached Farr with the commission. The poems are in English with Spanish translations – Farr chose the Spanish version for this setting as it is “a such musical language”, and I felt it suited the atmospheric yet emotional tone of the music..
