Anthony Ritchie: Meditation (Chamber Duo)
Violin & Piano
This work is published as a performance set with a saddle stitched score book for the pianist, and a paperback part for the violinist.
About the work:
Meditation (2008) is inspired by traditional Chinese folk music and poetry, and demonstrates Ritchie’s ongoing interest in exploring folk music traditions as a basis for creating new works. The violin part exploits expressive glissandi and high harmonics that recall the sound of the erhu, a bowed Chinese string instrument. Ritchie’s use of pentatonic modes and simple melodies throughout the work also evokes this influence.
