This saddle-stitched performance score is published for performance and study. This work calls for the use of scordatura. The C, G and A strings are to be tuned down a semmitone. The music is notated in two forms: on pages 1-3 it appears as it would in standard tuning (i.e. as the performer will finger it); and, for reference, on pages 4-8 it appears once again as in standard tuning, with the addition of a smaller stave showing the music notated as it will sound.
About the work:
Music for Solo Cello exploits scordatura to create rich, resonant new chordal possibilities, and the central presto is an exciting display of virtuoso pizzicato technique. This impressive work will make a powerful impact in a solo recital.
Music for Solo Cello was composed for You Lee in appreciation of his performance of the parts for cello solo in Harris' opera Tanz der Schwåne.
